Location: Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk
Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday to Friday
The Opportunity
The Process Development Scientist is responsible for scaling of processes to enhance operational efficiency, improve product quality, and drive innovation within the organisation to produce high-quality products efficiently. This role involves scaling up laboratory processes to production levels, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and quality standards. The individual will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Product Development, Quality Assurance, Manufacturing and Process Engineering.

What you’ll be doing
The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
Process Design and Optimization
Develop and refine processes for the manufacture of flavour ingredient for the beverage market.
Optimize workflows to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance product quality.
Evaluate and implement new technologies or methodologies to advance process capabilities.
Scale-Up and Transfer
Translate laboratory-scale processes to pilot-scale and full-scale production.
Collaborate with manufacturing teams to ensure seamless technology transfer.
Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process descriptions for scaled-up operations.
Support Management of Change (MOC) activities for new processes, equipment, and operating methods.
Data Analysis and Troubleshooting
Analyse process performance data to identify trends and root causes of variability.
Resolve production or process issues to ensure consistent product quality.
Conduct risk assessments and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) as needed.
Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with Product Development and Process Engineering to understand product requirements and align processes.
Partner with Quality Assurance and Regulatory teams to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., GMP, ISO).
Communicate process improvements and technical findings through reports, presentations, and team meetings.
Regulatory Compliance and Documentation
Ensure all processes comply with relevant regulations and industry standards.
Maintain detailed records of experiments, process changes, and validations.
Support regulatory submissions by providing necessary technical data and documentation.
Assist with Scale Up and roll out to full scale including Training and Documentation.
What we’re looking for
If you have a genuine passion for what you do and want to work in an environment that celebrates progress, teamwork and dedication, you’re what we’re after.
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field (master’s or Ph.D. preferred).
Experience in process development, manufacturing, or a related field.
Experience with specific technologies or processes relevant to the role, e.g., chromatography, chemical synthesis,
