Reporting to: Senior Process Engineer
Location: Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk
Hours: 40 hours per week
The Opportunity
You will be a driven Process Engineer within our dynamic manufacturing environment. You will lead the design, implementation, control, and optimisation of industrial processes to enhance safety, efficiency, productivity, and sustainability. This is a critical role that works cross-functionally to deliver continuous improvement, support capital projects, and ensure operational excellence across the business.

What you’ll be doing
The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
Process Safety
· Support the site’s major accident hazard management systems.
Participate in and facilitate Hazard studies (HAZOP, LOPA) and risk assessments.
Ensure plant modifications follow Management of Change (MOC) procedures.
Contribute to the development and maintenance of the COMAH Safety Report.
Plant Operations Support & Continuous improvement
Support operations with technical input into processes and equipment to enhance safety, efficiency and productivity.
Investigate and troubleshoot process deviations and performance issues.
Monitor plant performance using process data and historian systems.
Support scale up and commissioning activities.
Identify opportunities to improve yield, energy efficiency, and plant reliability
Lead or support process optimisation and debottlenecking projects.
Conduct root cause analysis for process incidents and reliability issues.
Support capital improvement projects from concept through implementation.
Process Engineering & Design
Perform process calculations, mass and energy balances, and equipment performance evaluations.
Develop and maintain process documentation, including SOPs, Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and Operating and safety envelopes
Compliance & Documentation
Contribute to ensuring the plant operation complies with COMAH regulations, Environmental permits, Company engineering standards
Maintain accurate technical documentation and engineering records.
Collaborate with the quality department to follow quality procedure
What we’re looking for

Minimum requirement:
BSc/BEng Chemical Engineer or equivalent relevant academic qualification
3+ years relevant industry experience
Knowledge of distillation, extraction and filtration technologies.
Experience in process safety studies (HAZID, HAZOP, PHR, LOPA)
Strong communication skills and ability to work across multiple teams.
Confident with MSOffice
Desirable:
NEBOSH general certificate/IOSH managing safety qualification
Formal Process safety training
Working towards Chartership
Experience with distributed control systems (DCS)
Experience with COMAH
Functional Safety Knowledge
Human factors knowledge
