Job title: European Sales Director
Reporting to: European Managing Director
Location: Hybrid - regular travel to Bury St. Edmunds, Suffolk will be required
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
The Opportunity
The role is responsible for leading the European commercial team to drive execution of the Treatt growth strategy. The role is responsible for sales made from RC Treatt, ensuring effective management of the European based sales team to drive focus on sustainable profitable growth, matching resource with opportunity. The role will directly manage regional commercial teams which includes Sales, Inside Sales, Customer services & Key Account Specialists. This role will work in collaboration with the Global Accounts Director and Group Marketing Team.
You will ensure that the organisation is performing efficiently and effectively, with a safe, healthy and positive work environment for our people.
The European Sales & Customer teams work a mix of remote and hybrid work patterns. Location for this role is flexible but given the leadership components of the role, a regular presence in our head office in Bury St Edmunds would be required.

What you’ll be doing
The responsibilities of this role include but are not limited to:
Commercial Leadership
- To provide and lead the strategic direction of the regional commercial function, driving a winning mentality in the team
- Leading an experienced team, utilising their skills to enhance the day-to-day commercial delivery
- Providing a supportive, results focused leadership
- Manage to agreed sales budgets, recognising variances and implementing actions to resolve, seeking opportunities to outperformance sales targets
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in all commercial areas
- Review the people resources, maximising output in all areas of commercial
- Responsible for sales and margin of the European sales team
- Lead, coach and develop the European sales team in the identification and development of customer and business opportunities to provide sustainable, long-term growth both for Treatt and the members of the team
- Manage and maintain focus of the sales activities, ensuring that attention remains on noteworthy and sustainable business opportunities
- Instil accountability and drive performance by means of structured reporting on business performance and quantifiable business opportunities
- Provide guidance/input to Technical/R&D in terms of new product development and application capabilities required to execute business strategy
- Lead by example in the management of various regional accounts, with regional input into global accounts
- Travel with sales team to provide coaching and development, as well as support our key customers
- Guide and support Customer Service to ensure it is aligned with Sales and the needs of the customer
- Ensure staff are provided with clear direction and focus which is in line with the strategic plans for the department and business
- Providing hands-on leadership by example and emitting positive signals through demonstrable drive and energy
- Nurture talent for succession planning, identifying skills gaps, high performers, and potential performance issues and tackling promptly. Identify appropriate methods of motivation led by individual needs
- Ensure a high level of internal customer centricity
General
- Support local risk exposure by following and highlighting governance requirements, systems of controls, and ensuring that the appropriate requirements are operating effectively.
- Perform such other tasks as are consistent with the general description Act in the best interests of Treatt PLC at all times
What we’re looking for
If you have a genuine passion for what you do and want to work in an environment that celebrates progress, teamwork and dedication, you’re what we’re after.
- 5 years plus experience, specifically in our industry, leading a Sales team with proven effectiveness
- 10 years plus experience in sales of food ingredients
- A demonstrable knowledge of products and types of customers
- Experience of selling business to business, in our industry
